A ceramic mask with a bird-like beak and intricate feather details.

Welcome

Raku art epitomizes the artistic expression of spontaneity in events, almost accidental, where the elegance and uniqueness of 'imperfections' can be appreciated as unpretentious beauty. The Raku pottery technique involves a very fast kiln firing at a lower temperature maturity. When the maturing temperature is reached (usually between 1750 to 1850 degrees F), the ceramic sculpture is removed immediately and then cooled in water. The result is an economical, aesthetically pleasing pottery that avoids any offensive sound. Raku has evolved to signify an appreciation for the natural order of things that are fresh and uncomplicated, reflecting the artistic expression found in the works of J.W. Gruber.
